The Iron the buddha is a variety of premium oolong tea chinese that originated in the 19th century in Anxi in Fujian province. The tea takes its name from the goddess of the chinese of Mercy Guanyin, who is known in Japan as Kannon and in Korea as Gwan-EUM. Guanyin is a form of realization, the female of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. Other spellings and names include "Ti Kuan Yin", "Tit Kwun Yum", "Ti Kwan Yin", "Iron Buddha", "Iron Goddess Oolong", and "The tea of the Bodhisattva of iron". It is also known in the abbreviated form as "TGY".
